BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Finlay Bloodworth scored a 65th-minute header to propel the Bellevue University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Benedictine College on Wednesday evening at Faiman Field on the campus of Bellevue West High School.

Records:

Bellevue: 4-0-1
Benedictine: 1-1-0

Recap:

Benedictine looked to get on the board first, in the 36th minute, but the goal was disallowed because of a foul committed against Bruin keeper AJ Jarvis.

Bellevue got on the board in the 50th minute. Aboubakar Tchalombo won a free kick about 28 yards from goal when he was fouled on a counter-attack. Toby Millward hit the free to the far side of the box behind the defense where Finlay Bloodworth sent a screaming header into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

The Bruins had a chance to double their lead when Renato Silva, making his Bruin debut, won a free kick in a dangerous area in the 65th minute where Millward again delivered a well-het ball but no one could connect for an attempt at goal.

BU's back line – comprised of Andy Wilkinson, Jacob Pease, and Toby Millward – did well to limit the quality of Benedictine's chances at goal in addition to turning away several dangerous runs without a chance.

Jarvis (4-0-1) made six saves in net for the Bruins to earn the win with the defense collecting an additional team save.

Isaac Jenkins (1-1-0) stopped two shots for Benedictine.

The Ravens out-shot Bellevue 13-8 (7-2 on goal) while both teams won three corner kicks.

A chippy affair, the match saw 41 fouls whistled which included six yellow cards and an additional red card.

Man of the Match:

AJ Jarvis - The sophomore keeper made six saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season. He's now 4-0-1 with a 0.77 goals against average and .833 save percentage.

Mark Heath Preston:

"I'm very proud of the way the boys carried themselves in a tough game against a good team. We have now played three games in five days which isn't easy on the legs so I was happy that we were able to finish the game off the way we did. AJ Jarvis was great and had lots of work to do from their long throw ins. We now have a couple of days off before we play Concordia so our focus is now on that game."
