BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The No. 14 Bellevue University men's soccer team came away with a hard-fought 0-0 draw with No. 4 Grand View University on Saturday afternoon at Bellevue Soccer Club. The match was the season-opener for both squads.

Grand View out-shot the host Bruins 14-11 and gained a slight advantage in shots on goal, recording five against BU's four. Junior keeper Ben Martin was up to the task in net stopping all five shots he faced to register his first clean sheet of the campaign. He was aided by a solid performance of his back line, anchored by senior center back Alan Carr and senior captain Jamie Henderson.

Bellevue played a man down following a player being sent off in the 74th minute and finished the match with nine men against ten after each side lost a man at the end of the first overtime period.

The Vikings had the better of the offensive chances following the first dismissal and finished with an 11-4 edge in corners for the match.

Senior Jonathon Callaghan led the Bruins with four shots, including one that found its way on target while sophomore Daniel Coupland, Henderson, and senior Tobias Maertzke each put a shot on net.

The game saw a total of 35 fouls, seven yellow cards, and three red cards (including a pair of straight reds).

Bellevue (0-0-1) returns to action when they travel to Denver, Colo. for a 4:30 match with Warner Pacific on Thursday, Aug. 27.
