Veidman's hat trick leads Bellevue to 7-0 win over York

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 win over York College on Wednesday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Tranquility Park.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 6-7-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the MCAC while York dropped to 2-12-2 and 0-2-1 in league play.

Manuel Lira put the Bruins on the scoreboard with a goal just 6:46 into the match. Tobias Maertzke was credited with the assist.

Leigh Veidman netted goals in the 16th, 23rd and 31st minutes for the hat trick. Veidman has now scored four goals this season.

Jacob Cawsey gave the Bruins a 5-0 lead at halftime on a shot from 18 yards out that found the back of the net at the 41:31 mark.

Lee Woolmore scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick by Cawsey at 59:29 in the second half.

Ryan Beasley ended the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 75th minute.

BU outshot the Panthers by a 37-2 margin and also held a 17-2 advantage in corner kicks. The 37 shots are a season-high.

Gary Rafferty led the Bruins with seven shots off the bench to lead the offensive attack.

Scott Robertson (5-3-0) and Ben Martin combined for the shutout. Ighor Tavares recorded 13 saves in the loss for YC.

The Bruins will play their final nonconference match of the regular season when they welcome second-ranked Grand View University (13-2-0) to Tranquility Park on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
