Bruins cage Panthers, 3-1

YORK, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team won its second straight match, topping York College 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Levitt Stadium.

Bellevue improved to 2-11-0 and 2-0-0 in the MCAC while York dropped to 3-9-2 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.

The Bruins struck first with a goal in the fifth minute of action by Jamie Waters, his first of the season, off a corner kick by Jacob Cawsey.

Antonio Pinto put BU up by a two-goal margin after he scored his second goal of the season when he beat Luis Pulido at 26:26 in the first half.

Carlos Fernandes cut the Bruins' lead in half in the 38th minute.

The Panthers had an opportunity to tie the match at two-all at 69:33 in the second half, but Luis Arevalo's penalty shot went wide.

BU capitalized on the miss and Juan Narvaez netted a goal just two minutes later at 71:36. This marked his first goal of the season.

The Bruins out shot the Panthers by 10, 17-7, and also held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Graeme Eaglesham registered a match-high five shots to lead BU.

Luke Baxter notched three saves in the win while Pulido recorded five saves in goal for the Panthers.

The Bruins will visit No. 17 Kansas Wesleyan University on Monday, Oct. 17 for an 8:30 p.m. kick-off.
