Lastra goal lifts BU over Eagles, 2-1, in 2 OTs

OMAHA, Neb. -- Sophomore David Lastra scored with 47 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Bellevue University men's soccer team a dramatic 2-1 victory over Southwestern Christian College Sunday afternoon at Tranquility Park, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.

The Bruins won their fourth-straight game, improving to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in the MCAC. Southwestern Christian fell to 12-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.

James Evison gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick following a yellow card by Eagle goalkeeper Joe Shulberg.

The Eagles' Greg Scholes tied the game on a header in the box off a free kick from Jake Cottage with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation.

Lastra scored on a cross into the box from Michael Conchie from seven yards out to give BU the victory. It marked Lastra's fourth game-winning goal of the season and his second last minute double overtime score.

The Eagles held a 15-11 advantage in shots and both teams had six shots on goal.

Sebastian Narvaez improved to 8-3 on the season, recording five saves in the victory.

The Bruins will head to Houston, Texas on Friday, Oct. 15 for a 7 p.m. match at the University of St. Thomas.
