
LEMONT, Ill. -- Cayden Wynne is tied atop the individual leaderboard and the Bellevue University men's golf team is in third place after the first round of play on Monday afternoon at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate.
The tournament is being hosted by Lewis University at the 7,078-yard, par-72 Cog Hill Golf and Country Club.
University of Wisconsin-Parkside leads the 17-team field at 4-over (292), holding an 8-stroke lead over Aurora University, who shot a 12-over 300 as a team. Bellevue is three strokes behind Aurora in third at 15-over (303) while Lincoln University (306, +18) and Purdue University Northwest (307, +19) round out the top five. The Bruins are one of just three NAIA teams competing in the predominantly NCAA Division II event.
Cayden Wynne registered three birdies on his way to a 1-under front nine. He added three more on the back to shoot a 1-under 71 for the day and is tied with Wisconsin-Parkside's Peter Blazevic at the front of the 96-golfer field.
Dylan Rodgers is tied for eighth overall, two strokes back at 1-over (73). He started on hole No. 2 and was even par on the day until a double bogey on No. 18 but closed strong with a birdie on No. 1, one of four birdies on the afternoon.
Thomas Gatlin posted matching 3-over 39s on both the front and back. His 6-over 78 round was highlighted by a birdie on the 399-yard, par four No. 7. He finds himself tied for 38th place overall.
Randy Christensen shot 9-over 81 on the day and is tied for 58th place. His best work came on the front nine where he shot a 3-over 39 that featured a birdie on the 427-yard, par four No. 4.
Kyle Dale is tied for 66th place after a 10-over (82) first round which saw him sink a trio of birdies. He shot 40 on the back nine, improving from a 42 on the front.
