Gatlin tied atop leaderboard; BU tied for fourth at Nebraska Intercollegiate

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Thomas Gatlin is one of five golfers tied for the lead after one round of play at the 2024 Nebraska Intercollegiate Championship.

The Nebraska Intercollegiate is being played at the 6,996-yard, par-72 Lochland Country Club.

Gatlin shot a 2-under 70, highlighted by six birdies, to pace the Bruins on Friday as he finds himself shared for the lead with four others. He started the day strong with four birdies en route to a 2-under front nine and birdied both No. 10 and No. 11 on the back to move to 4-under before finishing at 2-under.

Jacob Harnden (Northeast CC), Henry Kosmicki (Hastings), Janlo Zaayman (Midland), and Jake Hagerbaumer (Concordia) are each 2-under through 18 holes.

Kyle Dale posted matching even par 36's on the front and back. He registered a birdie on No. 4 before recording three on the back nine on his way to an even par 72 which has him tied for seventh place, just two shots off the lead.

Randy Christensen is tied for 29th place after a 5-over 77. He turned in a consistent round that saw him shot 38, with a birdie, on the front and 39 on the back.

Cayden Wynne shot an 8-over 80 in Friday's first round and sits in a tie for 34th. After a 41 on the front, he improved to a 39 on the back in a round that featured a birdie and 10 pars.

Dylan Rodgers was 9-over (81) on the day but finished strong with a birdie on his final hole (No. 1), one of four on the afternoon. He is tied for 38th in the 50-golfer field.

Hastings College and Midland University share the team lead at 5-over (293) while Nebraska Wesleyan University is two shots off the pace at 7-over (295).

Bellevue shot 12-over (300) as a team and in lodged in a four-way tie for fourth place along with Northeast Community College, Southeast Community College, and Doane University.

Final round play begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
