Johnson finishes 29th at NAIA National Championship

DALTON, Ga. -- Freshman Sam Johnson concluded play at the 2024 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship in a tie for 29th place, shooting a 5-over 72 in Friday's final round.

The four-day, 72-hole tournament is being played at the 7,043-yard, par-72, Dalton Golf and Country Club.
Beginning the day on No. 10, Johnson parred his first hole before a trio of bogeys. He righted the ship, shooting 1-under over the next five holes to close out the back nine with a 2-over 38.

He alternated pars and bogeys over the first six holes on the front but finished strong, parring his final three holes to shoot a 3-over 39 on the front.

Johnson finished the tournament at 14-over with a 72-hole score of 302.

Ottawa (Ariz.) University's Kolby Shackelford made a huge fourth-round push with a tournament-best 5-under 67 round to climb from 12th place to force a playoff with Texas Wesleyan's Juan Ricardo Davile Bone for the individual title after the two finished deadlocked with an even-par 288.

Davila Bone birdied the playoff hole to prevail over Shackelford and take home the individual title. Antonio Juarbe of the College of Coastal Georgia finished third, two strokes back.

Dalton State University took home the team title by a single stroke. Facing a one-stroke deficit to begin the day, the Roadrunners shot a four-over 292, and Texas Wesleyan University shot 294 as a team.
