
DALTON, Ga. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team is currently tied in 23rd place after the opening day of play at the 72-hole NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being played at the 7.043-yard, par 72 Dalton Country Club.
Keiser University holds a one-stroke lead over The Sun Conference rival St. Thomas University. The Seahawks are 3-over as a team at 291 while the Bobcats shot a 4-over score of 292. Host Dalton State University and Texas Wesleyan University are tied for third at 7-over (295) while University of British Columbia rounds out the top five at 11-over (299).
Cayden Wynne was Bellevue's top performer on the day and finds himself in 43rd place after shooting a 4-over 76. He birdied a pair of holes on both the front (No. 2, 8) and back (No. 10, 13) nine.
Totte Uhlan and Sam Johnson are tied for 83rd place with matching 7-over rounds of 79. Uhlan birdied a hole on each the front (No. 5) and back (No. 15) nine. Johnson fired an even par front nine, sinking a pair of birdies (No. 2, 8).
Randy Christiansen was BU's fourth scorer, carding a 13-over round of 85, tied for 143rd place. He birdied consecutive holes on the back nine, converting on the par-3 14th and par-4 15th.
Dylan Rodgers, coming off an NSAA Championship, shot a 16-over 88 and is tied for 152nd in the 156-golfer field.
Isac Wallin (Keiser) and Tomas Borquez (St. Thomas) share the top spot on the individual leaderboard, a stroke ahead of a logjam in third place.
Nine players shot under par on the day with five more matching par.
