LE MARS, Iowa -- Cayden Wynne and Sam Johnson each finished among the top 10 at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational on Tuesday afternoon to guide the Bellevue University men's golf team to a fourth place finish.
Cayden Wynne shot a 5-under 66 on the day to finish at even par and tie for third place. He began the day in 14th place at 5-over but used seven birdies to climb into a four-way tie for third.
The Northwester Iowa National Invitational was hosted by Texas Wesleyan University at Willow Creek Golf Club in Le Mars, Iowa. The course was set up as a 6,563-yard, Par 71.
Texas Wesleyan's Juan Ricardo Davila Bone and MidAmerica Nazarene's Colby Unruh tied for the individual title as Bone carded a 6-under round to make up a seven-stroke deficit to force a playoff. Davila Bone won the playoff hole while his 65 tied a course record.
Sam Johnson fired an even-par 71 to finish the seventh and wrap up the tournament at even par.
Texas Wesleyan (+7) rallied from eight strokes down to take the team title, climbing from third place after yesterday's first two rounds. The Rams recorded a two-stroke victory over Ottawa University (+9) with MidAmerica Nazarene University (+11), Bellevue (+18), and Friends University (+33) rounding out the top five.
Totte Uhlan and Hugo Brandt finished in a tie for 26th place with matching 54-hole totals of 224 (+11). The former registered a 3-over round and the latter turned in a scorecard at 1-under, respectively.
Dylan Rodgers shots 3-over for the day to finished in a tie for 33rd at 13-over for the tournament.
The Bruins next tee off on Monday, Oct. 2 at the Flyer Intercollegiate from Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.
