Bruins hold lead after two rounds at NW Iowa Invite

LE MARS, Iowa -- Three BU golfers are in the top ten through two rounds of play and the #6-ranked Bellevue University men's golf team holds a three-stroke lead at the Northwest Iowa Invitational.

Bellevue led throughout the day on Monday after shooting an even par 288 first round and a 3-over 291 second round.

Through 36 holes, BU is 3-over (579), three strokes ahead of second place Ottawa (Ariz.) who checks in at 6-over (582). Kansas Wesleyan, at 11-over (587), is lurking in third place after firing the lowest team round of the tournament with a 3-under 285 second round.

Comprising the field are six ranked teams, including four top 10 outfits; No. 4 Ottawa, No. 6 Bellevue, No. 7 Southwestern Christian, No. 9 Texas Wesleyan. Also ranked are No. 18 Morningside and No. 20 The Master's while Kansas Wesleyan is receiving votes.

Jack Dudeck (The Master's) and Jackson Sitzmann (Morningside) are each 3-under after carding matching first and second round scores of 69 and 72, respectively.

Rodrigo Navarrete was Bellevue's top golfer on the day. He opened with a 1-over first round and shot 1-under in the second to find himself in a tie for fifth place with an even par 144. During his first round, Navarrete birdied three holes and increased that total to five birdies during his second round.

Hugo Ronnberg and Alex Zillig are among a three-way tie for eighth place at 1-over 145. Both shot an even par 72 to begin the day and backed up their performances with matching 1-over 73 second rounds. After a consistent first round highlighted by five birdies, Ronnberg overcame a triple bogey on No. 8 by posting four birdies during his second round. Zillig totaled six birdies and added an eagle on No. 3 in his first round.

Hugo Brandt matched Navarrete with the Bruins' best individual round on the afternoon by carding a 1-under first round. After a 4-over second round, he finds himself in a tie for 17th at 3-over 147. He totaled seven birdies on the day, including four in his first round.

Floris-Jan Oosterhof, BU's fifth golfer, began the day with a 6-over 78 before trimming four strokes to post a 2-over 74 second round. After birdieing just one hole in the first round and recording a double bogey, Oosterhof finished the second round with four birdies and no double bogeys.
