
NEWTON, Kan. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team sits in third place at even par after the opening two rounds of play at the Mid-South Classic, being played at the 6,785-yard, par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
After firing an opening round team score of 7-over par 295, the Bruins rebounded with the tournament's best round, a 7-under par 281, to end the day at even par and in third place behind Wayland Baptist University and Marian University. WBU is eight strokes ahead of BU at 8-under par. Marian is 1-under par after Tuesday's two rounds. There are nine teams competing in the Mid-South Classic.
Hugo Ronnberg was BU's top performer on the day, shooting a pair of 2-under par 70's to put him at 4-under par for the tournament and in a tie for second place.
Hugo Brandt is tied for eighth place in the 52-player field at 1-under par with rounds of 72 and 71.
Floris-Jan Oosterhof carded rounds of 76 and 70, putting him at 2-over par and in a tie for 18th place.
Rodrigo Navarrete rebounded from an opening-round 8-over 80 by shooting a 2-under 70 in the second round, to put him in a tie for 31st place at 6-over par.
Alex Zillig is also 6-over par with rounds of 77 and 73.
Marian's Weston Ogden leads the field at 5-under par with rounds of 74 and 65. His 7-under 65 was the lowest round on the day.
Wednesday's final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
