BU finishes fourth at ChampionsGate Spring Invite

ChampionsGate, Fla. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team shot its best team round of the tournament, moving up one spot to finish fourth at the ChampionsGate Spring Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was played at the 7,075-yard, par-72 ChampionsGate Golf Club.

Bellevue, in its first competition of the spring season, shot a 12-over par team score of 300, to finish the 54-hole tournament at 41-over par (302-303-300 -- 905). 

Point (Ga.) University ran away with the team title after firing a 2-under 286 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 12-under par. Point finished 24 strokes ahead of second-place Keiser University who totaled 12-over par for the tournament. 

Senior Andre Becerra was the top BU golfer, placing eighth in the 46-player field at 4-over par with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. He carded rounds of 74 and 71 on Monday. Becerra's round was highlighted by three birdies on the back nine including birdies on the final two holes. 

Point's Ruan Pretorius was the individual champion at 8-under par. He tied the tournament's best round with a 7-under 65 in today's third round. 

Rodrigo Navarrete tied for 21st place with a 2-over 74 for a three-round sum of 10-over par (78-74-74). Navarrete's round was sparked by an eagle on the par-5, 536-yard 18th hole. 

Floris-Jan Oosterhof placed 29th overall after shooting a 4-over 76 to put him at 15-over for the tournament. Oosteerhof produced two birdies on the day. 

Hugo Ronnberg carded a 5-over 77 and finished in a tie for 30th place with a 16-over total for the 54 holes. Ronnberg's day was highlighted by a birdie on the second and 18th holes. 

Alex Zillig also shot a 5-over 77, securing a 32nd-place finish with a three-round total of 17-over par. Zillig had a team-high five birdies in Tuesday's third round. 

The Bruins will next be in action on Mar. 22-23 when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the Battle at Primm.
