
CHAMPIONS GATE, Fla. -- Led by senior Andre Becerra, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently tied for fifth place in the eight-team ChampionsGate Spring Invitational. The tournament is being played at the 7,075-yard, par-72 ChampionsGate Golf Club.
The Bruins shot team scores of 14-over 302 and 15-over 303 and are tied for fifth place with host school Dalton State University at 29-over par.
Point (Ga.) University holds a commanding 15-shot lead after firing rounds of even-par 288 and 10-under 278.
Becerra is tied for 14th in the 46-player field at 3-over par after shooting rounds of 4-over 76 and 1-under 71 in Monday's first and second rounds.
Point's Ryan van der Klis leads the field at 6-under par. He shot the tournament's lowest round with a 7-under 65 in Monday's first round. Indiana Wesleyan's Cameron Luczka is one shot back at 5-under par.
Rodrigo Navarrete fired rounds of 78 and 74 and is tied for 26th at 8-over par. Floris-Jan Oosterhof and Hugo Ronnberg are both tied for 29th place at 11-over par.
The final Bruin golfer, Alex Zillig, is currently in 33rd place at 12-over par with rounds of 77 and 79.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin at 9 a.m. central time.
