Bruins in 16th after opening round at Nationals

Results

MESA, Ariz. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in 16th place after the opening round of play at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship being played at the 6,925-yard, par-71 Las Sendas Gold Club - Hilly Desert Course.

The top 17 (of 30) teams after two rounds will advance to the third and fourth rounds on Thursday and Friday.  

Texas Wesleyan leads the field at 9-over par after shooting an opening-round team score of 293. Rocky Mountain College is three strokes back at 12-over par and South Carolina-Beaufort is four shots off the pace at 13-over. Five teams are within six shots of the lead after day one. 

Kansas Wesleyan's Ben Hadden leads the 156-player field at 2-under par. Keiser's Carl Didrik M. Fosaas and TWU's Victor Miron are both at 1-under.

Floris-Jan Oosterhof led the Bruins with a 5-over 76 on the day and is currently tied for 33rd place in the individual standings. He parred 11 holes and birdied one. 

Andre Becerra is tied for 59th place after shooting an opening-round 78. He had one birdie on the day. 

Alex Zillig fired an 8-over par 79 and is tied for 77th in the individual standings. Zillig shot 2-over 38 on the front nine with one birdie. 

Rodrigo Navarrete carded a 10-over 81 which puts him in a tie for 94th place. He finished the day with a birdie on the par-5 576-yard 18th hole. 

Juan Pablo Gomez finished with an 86 on the afternoon, putting him in a tie for 137th place. 

The Bruins will tee off at 8:20 a.m. (CST) in Wednesday's second round.
