Bruins hold onto fifth at Southern Plains Intercollegiate

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Despite posting a 323 round the Bellevue University men's golf team was able to hold onto their fifth place standing at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate Tournament.

The Course:

The tournament was played at the 7,255-yard, Par 72 Gaillardia Country Club and featured five of the nation's top 20 teams, including No. 1 Oklahoma City and No. 2 Texas Wesleyan.

Recap:

Oklahoma City entered the day with a four-stroke lead over second place Texas Wesleyan. Both teams shot identical 9-over rounds of 297 as the Stars held off TWU for an 879-883 win.

Wayland Baptist University finished 17 strokes back in third (900), followed by Northwestern College in fourth (906).

BU began the day 15 strokes ahead of Morningside College in fifth place and snagged a top five finish by two strokes with a 54-hole team total of 938.

The Bruin lineup was consistent 1-through-5 with Alex Zillig and Floris-Jan Oosterhof leading the way with 8-over rounds of 80. Rodrigo Navarette carded a 9-over 81 while Andre Becerra and Juan Pablo Gomez posted identical 10-over 82 rounds.

Navarette finished tied for 22nd (73-76-81—230) tops among Bruin golfers. Becerra was next in a tie for 28th (77-75-82—234) and Zillig held sole possession of 33rd (77-79-80-236).

Gomez (78-80-82—240) and Oosterhof (79-81—80—240) were among three golfers tied for 40th.

Aman Gupta of Oklahoma State (golfing as an individual) took home individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 211 (5-under), including posting a 3-under round on Tuesday. OCU's Jack Madden was four shots off the pace with a 1-under 215 for the tournament.
