
KOHLER, Wis. -- Freshman Rodrigo Navarette leads an 87-player field and the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently in second place in the team standings after the opening round of the 17-team Whistling Straits Intercollegiate Classic being played at the par-72, 6,788-yard Whistling Straits Golf Course.
Navarette fired a 3-under 69 on the day and has a two-stroke lead over Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester and Victor Miron. They were the only golfers to shoot under par on the day.
Texas Wesleyan leads the team standings with a 1-over par 289 team score. The Bruins are 11 strokes back at 12-over par (300). Midland sits in third place one shot behind BU at 13-over par (301).
Juan Pablo Gomez is tied for 12th place at 3-over par. Alex Zillig carded a five-over 77 and is tied for 21st place. Andre Becerra recorded a 7-over 79 on Monday and is tied for 41st place. Lautaro Marzilio is tied for 45th place at 9-over par (81).
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
