Bruins five shots back after first round of SCU Invite

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Rodrigo Navarette is just two shots back of the individual lead and the Bellevue University men's golf team is only five shots off the pace after one round of play at the Southwestern Christian University Invitational played at the Lake Hefner Golf Course.

Course Info:

The tournament is being played at the 6,970-yard, par-72 Lake Hefner Golf Course North in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Team Recap:

Bellevue is in second place after shooting 1-under (287) as a team in the 13-team field.

Kansas Wesleyan is the tournament leader at 6-under (282). Mid-America Christian is hanging around just three shots back of BU in third place at 2-over (290).

All four BU scoring golfers were 1-over or better on the day, the only team able to make such a claim.

Kansas Wesleyan saw three golfers shoot par or better with another coming in at 2-over. MACU matched KWU with three golfers at par or better but saw their fourth come in at 4-over.

Individual Recap:

Rodrigo Navarette tallied an eagle and four birdies as he was one of three golfers to shoot under 70 in the opening round. Navarette is currently two strokes off the pace set by tournament leader Troy Watson (66, 6-under) of Kansas Wesleyan. Central Baptist's Taylor Morton matched Navarette's first round score.

Three Bruin golfers – Andre Becerra, Alex Zillig, and Juan Pablo Gomez – are tied in 14th place with 1-over scores of 73 on the day. Becerra birdied four holes while Gomez and Zillig each recorded three birdies on the day.

Lautaro Marzilio carded a 6-over 78 to round out the BU lineup.

Golfing as an individual, Floris-Jan Oosterhof is tied for 18th after firing a 2-over 74 in the first 18 holes. He was consistent throughout the day, parring 14 holes.
