BU finishes 2nd at season-opening U.C. Ferguson Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Three BU golfers finished in the top 10 overall as the Bellevue University men's golf team garnered a second-place showing in the season-opening 14-team U.C. Ferguson Classic being hosted at the 6,576-yard, par 71 Lincoln Park Golf Course. 

The Bruins finished with a three-round team score of 6-under par 846 with rounds of 290, 278, and 278 in the 54-hole tournament. Host school Oklahoma City captured the team title with a 28-under par total of 824 (272-274-278). 

Freshman Rodrigo Navarette finished in fourth in the 81-player field at 5-under par for the tournament following Wednesday's round of 74. Junior Andre Becerra, who started the day at even par, tied for eighth place with a 1-under par 70 on the day and a 1-under total for the tournament. 

Freshman Alex Zillig fired the top BU score on the day with a 5-under 66, finishing the tournament at even par, which put him in a tie 10th place. His round of 66 tied for the lowest round on the day with The Master's Robert Penalber. 

Junior Lautaro Marzilio tied for 27th place at 5-over par after recording a 2-over 73 in the final round. 

Freshman Floris-Jan Oosterhof shot a 3-under 69 and finished in a tie for 40th place with a 54-hole total of 8-over par 221. 

Oklahoma City claimed the top three individual spots in the tournament, highlighted by David Myers who earned individual medalist honors at 11-under par with rounds of 66, 68 and 68. 

The Bruins will be back in action on Sept. 17-18 when they travel back to Oklahoma City for the Southwestern Christian Fall Invitational.
