Bruins finish 9th in final fall tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team completed the fall portion of the 2017-18 season with a ninth-place finish in the Southern Plains Invitational hosted by Oklahoma City University. 

The Bruins fired a team-total of 317 on Tuesday, for a three-round total of 961. Texas Wesleyan University ran away with the team title, finishing with an 870 team total after finishing Tuesday with an 8-under par team score of 280. TWU's nearest competitor was Oklahoma City, which finished 34 strokes back at 904 in the 13-team tourney. 

Sophomore Andre Becerra was the top BU golfer in the tournament, finishing in 11th place at 13-over par (229). Fernando Arzate tied for 23rd place with a 5-over 77 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 234. Juan Gomez shot the top Bruin round on the day at 2-over par 74 for a 54-total of 247, good for 51st place.Lautaro Marzilio tied for 54th place with 89 on Tuesday for a 251 total. 

TWU's Rowan Lester won the individual title with a 3-under total of 213 in the 72-player field. 

The Bruins will resume competition beginning in March.
