OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- As the lone team with a four-golfer lineup the Bellevue University men's golf team turned in a solid performance on the first day of the Southern Plains Intercollegiate Invitational being played at the 7,061-yard, par-72 Gaillardia Country Club.

In a 13-team field, Bellevue ranks in the middle of the pack in eighth place with a team score of 644 through two rounds of play. That score has the Bruins just two shots behind Morningside for seventh place.

Texas Wesleyan is currently pacing the field with a 36-hole score of 590. They hold a comfortable 18-stroke lead over second place Johnson & Wales (608) while Oklahoma City checks in at third with a score of 613.

Rowan Lester (Texas Wesleyan) is the overall tournament leader with a 143 through the first two rounds. Teammates Leo Mathard and Futa Yamagishi along with Andrew Williamson (Wayland Baptist) are tied for second at 146, three strokes off the pace.

Andre Becerra is setting the pace for the Bruins with a score of 152 (77-75) which has him tied for ninth overall. Fernando Arzate also turned in a top 20 performance on the day with a two-round score of 157 (76-81). Bellevue's other two golfers, Lautaro Marzilio (76-82—168) and Juan Gomez (92-81—173), are in 34th and 59th place, respectively.

Play resumes tomorrow morning with the third, and final, round of the tournament.
