Bruins move up two spots to 25th at NAIA Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team moved up two spots to 25th place after the second round of competition at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships Wednesday. The 72-hole tournament is being played at the 7,066-yard, par-71 TPC at Deere Run. 

The Bruins bettered their opening-round team score by 14 strokes, compiling a 624 (319-305) two-round team total. 

William Woods University continues to lead the team standings with a 36-hole team score of 585 (284-301). The University of British Columbia is three strokes back at 588. 

Lawren Rowe of the University of Victoria (BC) is the individual leader at 2-under par, 140 (73-67). 

Freshman Fernando Arzate shot the Bruins' top-round on the day with a 2-under par, 69. His score was the third-lowest of the day in the 156-person field. Arzate's two-round total of 149 puts him in a tie for 27th in the individual standings. 

Diego Gudino is in a tie for 79th with a 12-over par 154 (76-78) total. Juan Gomez matched his opening round score of 80 and is tied for 119th in the individual standings. 

Nicolas Handal fired a 7-over 78 on Wednesday for a two-round total of 162 (84-78). Marc Juggins has a 169 (83-86) two-day total. 

Thursday's third round will begin at 8:00 a.m. The tournament field will be cut after 54 holes and reduced to 17 teams and 40 individuals (including ties).
