Bruins eek out fourth straight MCAC Championship

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team, paced by individual champion Jose Vega, claimed a 4-stroke victory at the 2015 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at the Mozingo Lake Golf Club.

Vega shot a 4-under 68 on the day to lead Bellevue from a 5-stroke deficit past Oklahoma Wesleyan. Vega won MCAC Golfer of the Year for the second time in three seasons with a three-day total of 208 (8-under).

Juan Gomez and Tomas Ovejero both finished in the top 10 as well. Gomez shot 11-over (227) in the three-round event to place in a tie for sixth while Ovejero carded a 12-over (228) to place in a tie for ninth.

Mike Hannon and Diego Gudino finished back to back with scores of 229 and 231 to place 13th and 14th, respectively.

With their victory in the MCAC Championship, Bellevue advances to the NAIA National Championship to be held at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. from May 19-20.
