MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team rests in a tie for ninth place after shooting a 297 in the first round of the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational. The Bruins are tied with St. Gregory's University in the field of 16 teams.

Jose Vega and Tomas Ovejero each shot an opening round 73, good for a 1-over round apiece and tied for 22nd overall in the field of 90 competitors. Diego Gudino (75), Mike Hannon (76), and Juan Gomez (78) were all in close pursuit of Vega and Ovejero in shooting under 80 on the round.

The tournament is being played at the John Conrad Regional Golf Course on a 6,854 yard course.

Oklahoma City University is the overall team leader with a score of 283, two strokes ahead of second place Dodge City Community College.

The Bruins wrap up play with the final round of the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational tomorrow morning.
