
MAYETTA, Kan. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team claimed its seventh team title of the 2012-13 campaign by winning the Haskell Invitational Tuesday at the Fire Keeper Golf Course.
As a team, the Bruins shot the best round of the day, finishing with a two-day team total of 604 (308-296). Bethany (Kan.) College, which entered the day in first place, finished second with a 610 (306-304) total.
Jose Vega led the Bruins with a fifth place finish, recording a 5-over total of 149 (76-73). John Matthews finished in seventh with a 7-over 151 (77-74). Davis Garner carded a 153 (74-79) total, good for ninth place.
Mike Hannon improved his first round score by seven strokes, turning in a 36-hole sum of 155 (81-74), which put him in a tie for 11th place. Tomas Ovejero rounded out the Bruins' scoring, finishing in a tie for 13th with a 156 (81-75) total.
Bethany's Ben Johnson was the tournament medalist, finishing at 1-under par with a 143 (73-70).
The Bruins will travel to Tulsa, Okla. on April 22-23 for the MCAC Championships.
