
RIVERSIDE, Iowa -- Led by Davis Garner, the Bellevue University men's golf team captured the team title Saturday at the 12-team Ashford University Spring Invite, finishing two strokes ahead of tournament host Ashford.
The Bruins finished with a two-day team total of 595 to win their second-straight title and their fifth of the 2012-13 season. Ashford was second with a total of 597, followed by AIB College of Business with a 600.
Garner tied for second with a two-round total 2-over par 146 (70-76). John Matthews tied for fourth with a 3-over 147 (70-77). Jose Vega tied for 14th with a 6-over 150 (72-78). Rounding out the BU scoring was Tomas Ovejero who finished in 24th place with a total of 154 (78-76). Mike Hannon tied for 37th with a 159 (76-83) total.
The Bruins will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. on Tuesday-Wednesday, April 9-10, to compete in the Southwestern Christian Invite at the Hefner Golf Course.
