LoL opens with win over FSU, OW2 splits in UK invite

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University esports program had a pair of teams in action last week with League of Legends kicking off the NACE League season and Overwatch 2 continuing play in the University of Kentucky Invitational.

BU's League of Legends team began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Florida State University. The Bruins took a relatively quick win in 22:03 of the first game, Game two saw the Seminoles outlast the Bruins in the longest game of the match, 34:50. Then, in the decisive third game, BU owned a 23-8 kill advantage and took the victory in 30:05.

Three matches await League of Legends this week. The Bruins face UMBC tomorrow at 6 p.m. before a pair of matches on Thursday against Lewis at 6 p.m. and Cumberlands at 8 p.m., respectively.

In the Kentucky Invite, 10th-ranked Bellevue fell to No. 2-ranked Fisher 2-0 before responding with a 2-0 win over Missouri to split the week. BU is 5-1 in that tournament with four matches to play.

BU's Overwatch 2 team has a pair of UK Invite matches on Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m. against UT-Dallas followed by a match-up against St. Thomas (Texas) in the penultimate week of that regular season. Weekend play sees the Bruins begin their Collegiate Homecoming Playoffs against Iowa State on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Round of 32.

Saturday sees the Bellevue host its third, and final, Brawlhalla Collegiate Homecoming at noon with the final eight to be streamed on the Bruins' Twitch account.
