BU out-slugs York in Tuesday non-conference action

OMAHA, Neb. -- York University out-homered the Bellevue University baseball team but the Bruins got the better of the Panthers on the scoreboard, posting a 13-10 victory on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference slugfest at John Stella Field at Brown Park.

With their fourth win in five games, Bellevue improves to 14-11 while York slips to 10-16 on the year.

Logan Grant and Elijah Tanner led with way with three hits apiece for the Bruins while Scott Hansen and Jake Lacey also posted multi-hit games. Grant drove in five to lead BU and Hansen score a team-high three runs from the leadoff spot.

Ian Heck launched a pair of two-run home runs for York and Ryan Romero added a pair of solo blasts. Trevor Peterson and Cesar Galvan also left the yard.

Heck's first bomb gave York a 2-0 lead in the first and Romero's first made it 3-0 in the second.

Ayden Makarus belted his second home run of the year to get the Bruins on the board in the second and Grant put the Bruins ahead with a three-run shot later in the frame, his 10th long ball of the year.

Bellevue added two more in the fourth but back-to-back jacks from Heck and Peterson in the fifth saw York tie the game at 6-all.

The Bruins quickly responded as Grant was hit with the bases loaded and Lacey singled home a run in the fifth ahead of a grand slam from Anthony Lind – his fourth homer of the year – as BU took a 12-6 lead.

Run-scoring doubles from Cam Reeve and Sam Hodoly in the sixth cut the Bellevue advantage to 12-8.

Grant singled home another run in the home half of the frame for a 13-8 lead.

Romero and Galvan added solo shots in the seventh and eighth, respectively, to account for the final margin.

Four BU pitchers combined to rack up 16 strikeouts. Starter Kody Butt punched out six before handing the ball over to the bullpen. Jared Eifler struck out one, Brayden Andersen retired four via the K, and Teron Williams tallied five punchouts to close the game.

Andersen (1-0) earned the win with his 1.2 innings of relief work.

Jackson Van Roekel (0-1) took the loss for York as the Panthers employed six hurlers on the afternoon.

Bellevue opens North Star Athletic Association play when they host Valley City State University (15-14) on Thursday, Mar. 27 for a double-header beginning at 11 a.m. from Don Roddy Field on the campus of Bellevue East High School.
