Bruin bats stay hot as BU extends streak with 9-6 win over Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- After jumping out to an early eight-run lead, the No. 15-ranked Bellevue University baseball team extended their win streak to five games with a 9-6 win over Warner University on Tuesday evening at Royals Field.

By completing the mini-sweep of the Royals, BU improves to 7-6 on the year while Warner slides to 7-11.

Jake Lacey and Steven Elsner combined to score five runs as each finished 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of walks atop the Bruin order.

CJ Townsend also delivered a two-hit performance and scored a pair of runs in the game.

Jorge Pereira (3-4) and Diego Guevara (3-5) combined to go 6-for-9 with three RBI and three runs scored though the rest of the Royals' lineup was just a combined 3-for-27.

Ayden Makarus recorded his first RBI as a Bruin with a fielder's choice in the opening half inning to chase in Elsner with the game's first run.

Bellevue exploded for five runs in the second to extend the lead to 6-0. Bases loaded free passes to Elsner, Makarus, and Elijah Tanner along with Logan Grant being hit by a pitch accounted for four runs and a sac fly from Anthony Lind provided the other.

Dovydas Raciunas (0-2) wore the loss after he lasted just 1.1 innings allowing five earned runs (six total) on one hit but he walked five and hit a batter.

Makarus chased home Lacey with a sac fly in the sixth and Scott Hansen drew a bases-loaded walk at the lead swelled to 8-0.

Warner countered with a four-run third, highlighted by a two-run double off the batt of Guevary to halve the Bruin advantage.

Elsner doubled home Townsend in the fourth for the ninth Bruin run of the game before head coach Duane Monlux went to the Bruin bullpen for the final six innings.

Asantay Wilson (1-0), making his BU debut earned the win after coming in and firing three innings of relief, allowing a pair of runs before being lifted for Kody Butt.

Butt worked a scoreless inning of relief before handing the ball over to Teron Williams who allowed just one hit en route to recording his first save of the season.

Bellevue is off tomorrow before beginning a three-game series at No. 8-ranked Webber International University on Thursday, Mar. 6 at 12 p.m. Central (1 p.m. Eastern) from Brad Niethammer Field in Babson Park, Fla.
