Bruins post run-rule victory over Morningside

OMAHA, Neb. -- Five pitchers combined on the Bruins' second shutout of the season as the No. 15 Bellevue University baseball team picked up a 10-0 non-conference win over Morningside University on Tuesday afternoon at John Stella Field at Brown Park.

The Bruins win their fifth-straight to improve to 16-9 on the season while the Mustangs slip to 15-9.

Parker McMan (2-1), the predetermined pitcher of record, worked two scoreless innings in his first start of the year, allowing just one hit.

Josh Pratt (1-1) took the loss, allowing a pair of run on four hits across two innings of work.

Jake Lacey put the Bruins on the board in the third with a towering two-out, two-run home run off Pratt. Lacey finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk, three runs batted in, and a pair of runs scored.

Alec Ackerman registered a 4-for-4 game with a double and a pair of runs batted in. Nick Grade also posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Working with a two-run lead, BU added three more runs in the fourth with Logan Grant singling home Tyler Monroe ahead of Ackerman's two-run double.

Kenji Miller worked a pair of scoreless innings, stranding a trio base-runners. Easton Brinton worked around a pair of fifth inning hits to post a scoreless inning before giving way to Kole Bennett, making his season debut and working a scoreless sixth, before giving way to Jace Wessels who struck out the side in his lone inning on the hill.

Grade pushed the Bruin lead to 6-0 with a safety squeeze in the seventh and CJ Townsend followed up by singling home another run. Monroe took a ball off the back with the bases loaded for an 8-0 lead before Lacey ended the game. With the bases loaded, Lacey singled up the middle but Ryan Kiolbassa's behind-the-back flip to second was off the mark and Anthony Lind scored from second with the game-ending run.

Morningside picked up eight hits, including a two-hit game from Jayson Willers (2-3, 2B), but the Mustangs stranded 10 runners in the loss.

Bellevue hosts Dickinson State University Thursday-Friday, Mar. 21-22 for a four-game series at John Stella Field at Brown Park. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. both days.
