Bruins sweep weekly NSAA honors

MADISON, S.D. -- The Bellevue University baseball program swept the weekly North Star Athletic Association awards announced on Monday with Elijah Johnson being named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week and Conner Barnett garnering NSAA Player of the Week accolades. The Bruins swept a three-game home non-conference series with Briar Cliff University, outscoring the Chargers, 29-7 in the three wins. 

Johnson improved to 2-1 on the season as he earned the win in the first game of the series, not allowing a run while scattering one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts in seven innings of work in the Bruins' 9-2 victory. 

Barnett collected three hits in each game of the BCU series, going 9-for-13, batting .692 with six RBIs, two doubles, and one home run. In the final game of the series, Barnett went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs scored, a double, and a home run.  

The Bruins will head to Florida for their annual spring trip where BU will play nine games from March 5-12 in the Sunshine State. The trip will begin with a three-game series at St. Thomas (Fla.) in Lakeland, Fla.
