Bruins down Falcons, upended late by #14 Drovers

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- The Bellevue University baseball team kicked off another three-game weekend in the Sooner State on Saturday with a 6-3 win over Friends University before falling to host No. 14-ranked Science & Arts 4-3 in the nightcap.

The Bruins now stand at 4-3 on the year, all three losses to Top 25 teams by a combined four runs.

Game 1: BU 6, Friends 3

Despite being an NAIA requirement, USAO did not keep official stats for the game. Full stats, will be uploaded via the scorebook kept in the Friends dugout as soon as possible.

McGrane Pledger (1-1) picked up the win throwing 5.2 innings in the start and carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning.

With Bellevue trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Tradd Richardson hit a go-ahead three-run home run to spark the Bruins onto victory.

Alexandro Celiceo entered with two outs in the sixth to record a 1.1 inning save, his second of the year.

Game 2: USAO 4, BU 3

Elijah Johnson (1-1) got the nod on the hill in game two for the Bruins. Despite a complete game effort, Johnson took the loss in a tight contest.

Bellevue struck first with Josh Vaughan singling home Alex Stufft in the second.

Luis Pelayo put the Drovers on the board with his first of two home runs on the day. Later in the frame, Jake Womack doubled in Brandon Shumway for a 2-1 USAO lead.

The Bruins regained the lead in the sixth with an RBI-double off the bat of Mathieu Sirois who later came around to score on a grounder by Stufft. That chased Drover starter Drew Shaver after 5.2 innings of work.

Johnson issued a leadoff walk to C Galloway and, after a groundout, Pelayo delivered his second long ball of the day to give USAO a 4-3 lead.

Hagen Earls worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to nail down the victory for USAO.
