BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Evan Bennett (Lincoln, Neb./Cloud County CC) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
Townsend, a 6-1 right-hander, comes to Bellevue from Cloud County Community College in Kansas where he redshirted this past spring. Despite not pitching at Cloud County, Bennett turned in a terrific performance in the CornBelt League for the Omaha Bombers. He made seven appearances on the hill, six starts, and pitched to a 4-1 record whiel ranking among the league leaders in ERA. He struck out 35 batters in 36.1 innings (8.67 K/9) against just 13 walks.

"Evan joins the BU baseball family from Cloud County in Kansas. He redshirted their after graduating from Norris HS. He had a very good summer in the Cornbelt League in Omaha. He struck out nearly a batter at inning and was one of the leaders in ERA. He has four years of eligibility for the us. We are really looking forward to seeing how he progresses moving forward."
Bennett joins earlier signees Blake Crippen (LHP, Hillsboro, Ore./Lane CC), Alec Ackerman (IF, Parker, Colo./San Jose State), Kanta Kobayashi (OF, Tokyo, Japan/Gonzaga), Alex Stufft (IF, Temecula, Calif./Westmont), McKinley O'Connor (C, Panaca, Nev./Antelope Valley College), Mathieu Sirois (1B, Quebec City, Que.), Tradd Richardson (C, Frenchtown, Mont./Lassen College), Owen Viano (OF, Boise, Idaho/Treasure Valley CC), CJ Townsend (IF, Eugene, Ore./Treasure Valley CC) in the Bruins' 2021 signing class.
Bellevue finished the year at 41-18, won the NSAA Regular-Season title, and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 23rd time in program history. It was their eighth 40-win campaign in the last nine full seasons of competition.
