BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of CJ Townsend (Eugene, Ore./Treasure Valley CC) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
Townsend, a 5-10 middle infielder, comes to Bellevue from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore. where he was a fixture in the middle infield, starting 30 games over the past two seasons and hitting .291 with a .727 OPS.
Coach Monlux on Townsend:
"We are looking forward to CJ to get to Bellevue this fall. He was a regular in the lineup for Treasure Valley CC out in the NWAC. He is a steady player that has a knack for getting the job done. He comes from a very good baseball family, his older brother Brock is a pitcher for Oregon State University."
Townsend joins earlier signees Blake Crippen (LHP, Hillsboro, Ore./Lane CC), Alec Ackerman (IF, Parker, Colo./San Jose State), Kanta Kobayashi (OF, Tokyo, Japan/Gonzaga), Alex Stufft (IF, Temecula, Calif./Westmont), McKinley O'Connor (C, Panaca, Nev./Antelope Valley College), Mathieu Sirois (1B, Quebec City, Que.), Tradd Richardson (C, Frenchtown, Mont./Lassen College), and Owen Viano (OF, Boise, Idaho/Treasure Valley CC) in the Bruins' 2021 signing class.
Bellevue finished the year at 41-18, won the NSAA Regular-Season title, and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 23rd time in program history. It was their eighth 40-win campaign in the last nine full seasons of competition.
