BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Alec Ackerman (Parker, Colo./San Jose State) to a Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
Ackerman, a versatile 6-1 infielder, joins the Bruins from San Jose State University where he was a two-year member of the Spartans' team. Prior to SJSU, he attended the College at San Mateo. Ackerman saw time in the outfield and both middle infield positions
He saw regular playing time as a sophomore at CSM, serving as the Bulldogs' starting shortstop in 2019 when he hit .343 with a .997 OPS while racking up 23 extra-base hits and driving in 36 runs.
During his strong 2019 season, Ackerman was an All-Northern California and first team Coast Golden Gate selection.
Coach Monlux on Ackerman:
"Alec is a guy that we recruited out of San Mateo, but he chose to go to San Jose State after junior college. We are absolutely thrilled that he has decided to join the Bruins for the fall of 2021. He is a very good infielder that defends at a very high level and has a really good bat as well. He is a big time signing for us and we can't wait to get him on campus. He was actually born in the Omaha area and both his parents graduated from Omaha area schools. We are so pumped that he has decided to come back to the Omaha area and join the Bruin baseball family."
Ackerman joins earlier signee Blake Crippen (LHP, Hillsboro, Ore./Lane CC) in the Bruins' 2021 recruiting class.
Bellevue finished the year at 41-18, won the NSAA Regular-Season title, and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 23rd time in program history. It was their eighth 40-win campaign in the last nine full seasons of competition.
