Bruins down York, 6-1, in non-conference contest

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team used two big innings en route to a 6-1 non-conference victory over visiting York College Tuesday afternoon at John Stella Field in Brown Park. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 14-8 overall. York fell to 3-17 on the season.  

Neither team scored until an RBI single up the middle Alejandro Loera gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. 

The Bruins responded in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run homer to right-center field by pinch hitter Vincent Napolitano, giving BU a 3-1 advantage. 

Bellevue added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single to right field by Hagen Holmstead and a sacrifice fly to right field by Conner Barnett increasing the BU margin to 6-1.

Alexandro Celiceo (2-0) earned the win, allowing just two hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the final four innings of action. 

Marce Vasquez (0-2) was tagged with the loss, scattering four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings on the mound. 

The Bruins will be back in action this weekend when they host the following games at Brown Park:
