Cahill, Vaughan give Bruins sweep of NSAA Baseball weekly awards

MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University senior right-hander Graham Cahill (Omaha, Neb.) and junior infielder Josh Vaughan (Boise, Idaho) were named North Star Athletic Association Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the NSAA office on Monday afternoon.

Cahill made a pair of starts on the week and earned victories in both while posting a 2.77 ERA. In a complete game effort at (RV) Texas Wesleyan, Cahill limited the Rams to two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out five. He followed that up with a quality start of six innings in which he allowed three runs on six hits in a 14-3 thrashing of Olivet Nazarene.

Vaughan played in five of Bellevue's six games on the week, posting a slash line of .538/.684/.923 and driving in nine runs. He recorded multi-hit games against both Olivet Nazarene and #10 Central Methodist and had at least two RBI in four games. He began the week with a go-ahead pinch-hit double to help BU past (RV) Texas Wesleyan and in his next game hit a walk-off three-run home run to cap a six-run inning as Bellevue erased a 7-2 deficit to defeat William Woods.

Bellevue won five of six games on the week to improve their overall record to 9-3; it is their best start to a season since going 11-2 to open the 2016 campaign.

Up next four the Bruins is a nine-game swing through Florida, beginning with a double-header on Saturday, Mar. 6 against Warner University (9-5) at Royals Field at 11 a.m.
