Hansen named BU Male Academic Athlete of the Year

Senior baseball outfielder Tommy Hansen is this year's recipient of Bellevue University's Male Academic Athlete of the Year.

Hansen was a regular fixture in the Bruin lineup over the past two season, putting up very strong numbers. He hit .318 with an OPS of .899 for his BU career while totaling 20 extra-base hits, 59 runs scored, 41 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. For his efforts, he earned first team All-NSAA and NSAA Gold Glove honors in 2019.

Academically, Hansen sports a 3.85 cumulative GPA and will graduate with a degree in Health and Human Performance with a career goal of becoming a strength and conditioning coach. He is a two-time NSAA Scholar-Athlete and will be recognized later this month as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete when the NAIA sends out the official release.

Coach Duane Monlux said of Hansen, "Tommy has been a model teammate and student-athlete at Bellevue University for the past two years. He is organized, responsible, and very accountable. He is a tremendous young man that will do amazing things in life. He is the type of person that every coach wishes they have the opportunity to coach."

The Bruins finished the COVID-shorted 2020 season at 9-11 but were coming off the program's 14th Avista NAIA World Series Appearance in 2019. BU posted a 57-27 (.679) record in Hansen's two years with the club and extended their streak of qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament to nine-straight years.
