LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Bellevue University baseball team saw their 2019 season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-3 loss to Georgia Gwinnett College at Harris Field in the Avista NAIA World Series.

Georgia Gwinnett scored three first inning runs and used a four-spot in the fourth to grab an 8-1 lead en route to eliminating the Bruins from the postseason.
Brandon Desjardins came in out of the bullpen to start the fifth inning and proceeded to limit the Grizzlies to just a run on four hits over the final five innings but the damage had been done.
Trailing 4-0 in the third, Bellevue got on the scoreboard on a Travis Tanaka RBI-single. Wataru Kazama opened the inning with a single and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw before scoring on the base hit.
The Bruins threatened for more with runners on first and third but Cody Banks grounded into a double play to allow GGC starter Greg Loukinen to escape further damage.
Nick Barnes stretched the GGC lead to 9-1 with a homer to center field to lead off the top of the seventh after opening the scoring with a two-run triple in the first.
Bellevue was unable to solve Loukinen until getting a couple runs back in the later innings with a sac fly from Stuart Eurich in the seventh and an RBI-single from JT Patterson in the eighth.
Loukinen (10-3) went the distance for the Grizzlies, scattering five hits and striking out five Bruins on the day. Just one of the three runs he allowed was earned.
Stephen Knapp (10-3), pitching on three days' rest, took the loos for BU. He allowed seven runs – six earned – on four hits and a pair of walks in 3.1 innings.

Bellevue ends their season with a 48-16 record after reaching the Avista NAIA World Series for the 14th time in program history. The Bruins finished the year having won 41 of their final 44 games.
