FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The No. 25 Bellevue University baseball team closed out the regular season on Monday afternoon with a sweep of Waldorf University to conclude a dominant weekend in North Star Athletic Association action at the Waldorf Baseball Field.

The Bruins claimed a 24-12 victory in the opener before going on to a 19-2 triumph in game two to run their win-streak to a season-best 19 games.

Game One: Bellevue 24, Waldorf 12 (8 Innings)

Eight of nine Bellevue starters recorded at least three hits and all nine starters reached base safely at least three times in the game as Bellevue clinched a series win, defeating Waldorf 24-12 in eight innings.

Tommy Hansen (6) and Hunter Jury (3) each went deep for the Bruins who totaled 31 hits in the game, their most since racking up 39 base knocks in a 40-5 victory over Concordia on Apr. 20, 2009.

Travis Tanaka (5-for-8) and Riley Baasch (5-for-5) led the way with five hits apiece for Bellevue.

The teams traded six-run first innings before Bellevue put up back-to-back two-spots in the second and third for a 10-6 lead.

The Bruins pushed their lead to 15-6 in the sixth but Waldorf answered with a five-run sixth of their own to get back in the game at 15-11 but BU put things out of reach with nine runs over the next two innings.

Reigning NSAA Pitcher of the Week Mitch Savine (5-3) picked up the victory with five effective innings of relief. Brandon Desjardins came on for the final 2.1 innings and struck out five batters without surrendering an earned run.

Waldorf starter Dylan Hoffman (4-2) took the loss after allowing eight runs in just 1.2 innings.

Game Two: Bellevue 19, Waldorf 2

Bellevue scored in every inning but the sixth as the concluded a weekend in which they out-scored Waldorf 71-17 with a 19-2 victory.

Wataru Kazama (5-for-5) led six players with multi-hit games while Kory Longaker (9) and JT Patterson (21) each went deep for the Bruins.

The Bruins got off to an early 3-0 lead on Longaker's three-run first inning home run and stretched the lead to 10-0 by the middle of the third.

Waldorf scored single runs in each the third and fourth innings and BU closed the game by scoring three runs in three of the final four frames.

Colton Walker (4-2) threw six quality innings to get the win, limiting the Warriors to a pair of runs and six hits. He struck out seven against three walks.

Joey Ponder (0-1) suffered the defeat for Waldorf. He allowed six runs on six hits in 2.1 before being lifted for a reliever.

Bellevue begins post-season play on Friday, May 3 against Viterbo University in the first round of the NSAA Tournament. The Bruins are the top seed in the double-elimination tournament while Viterbo enters the field as the No. 6-seed.

The Bruins enter the postseason having won 32 of their past 33 games. During that time they are averaging 11.2 runs per game and hitting .396 as a team while the pitching staff has worked to a 2.80 ERA over that span. BU has outscored their opponents 368-97 in those 33 games.

The 71 runs and 82 hits in a four-game series are both the most by BU in program history.
