Bruins down Warriors in midweek action

OMAHA, Neb. -- JT Patterson launched a pair of home runs to power the Bellevue University baseball team past Midland University 11-3 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Millard North High school.

BU pounded out 17 hits on the afternoon, including seven which went for extra bases.

JT Patterson put the Bruins on the board in the top of the first with a two-run shot to right-center. He added another long ball, his fifth of the year, in the eighth to stretch the BU lead to 11-2.

A Travis Tanaka double and Kory Longaker triple in the second pushed the Bruin lead to 5-0 early.

Longaker added an RBI-single and Patterson a sac fly in the fourth for a 7-0 BU lead.

Midland got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth with _ Weber scoring while Sam Braun was caught stealing on the play.

Bellevue tacked on three more runs over the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.

The Warriors added single runs in each the seventh and ninth.

Patterson and Riley Baasch each notched three-hit games while Tanaka, Longaker, Cody Banks, and Stuart Eurich each recorded a pair of hits. Tanaka, Longaker, and Banks all drove in two runs apiece to support Patterson's four-RBI day.

Anthony Alvarado (1-1), designated the pitcher of record, earned the victory for the Bruins with two hitless innings to open the game. Four Bruin pitchers combined to limit Midland to just five hits.

Ten different pitchers saw time on the hill for Midland with starter Luke Egging (1-1) taking the loss after putting the Warriors in an early 2-0 hole.

Bellevue opens NSAA play this weekend with a four-game set against Mayville State University. The two squads with meet in Joplin, Mo. for a pair of double-headers on Friday and Saturday with the action set to begin at noon both days.
