Bruins rout Warner to close out trip

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Scoring early and often, the Bellevue University baseball team closed out its spring break trip with a resounding victory, defeating (RV) Warner University 14-3 on Saturday afternoon in the fourth place game of the Warner Invitational at Royals Field.

Records:

Bellevue: 8-13
(RV) Warner: 20-8

Recap: Bellevue 14, Warner 3

Bellevue got the ball rolling with six runs in the opening frame and put up another six-spot in the fourth to snag a 12-2 lead en route to a comfortable victory.

Kory Longaker tallied three base knocks to lead BU's 11-hit attack. JT Patterson, Cody Banks, and Daniel Teasley all recorded two-hit games in the win. Longaker and Teasley each drove in three runs on the afternoon while Banks and Hunter Jury knocked in a pair apiece.

Warner tried to make things interesting in the third. The Royals plated a pair of runs and still had the bases loaded with just one out but BU was able to escape further damage as the Bruins exited the inning still holding a strong 6-2 lead.

Derek Browne (2-1) went the distance to earn the victory. He limited the Royals to just three runs on five hits over 7.0 innings on the hill. Just two of the three runs surrendered by Browne were earned as the right-hander struck out five and issued three free passes.

Warner staffed out the game with six pitchers each throwing one inning. Wilson Lorenzo (0-1) took the loss after spotting BU a 6-0 lead in the first. The Royals committed nine errors as a team while the pitching staff issued six walks and was battered for 11 hits on the day.

Up Next:

Bellevue is next scheduled to play on Tuesday, Mar. 19 when they head to Fremont, Neb. for a 4 p.m. affair against Midland University from Moller Field.
