BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Offense in game one and pitching in game two saw the Bellevue University baseball team sweep Viterbo University in a North Star Athletic Association double-header at Don Roddy Field on the campus of Bellevue East High School.
Bellevue took the first game by a score of 20-3 in seven innings before the Bruins went on to win the nightcap 5-2.
With the sweep Bellevue (28-19, 13-4 NSAA) is now riding their longest win streak of the season at six-straight games. Viterbo (10-34, 7-9 NSAA), conversely, has now lost six-straight.
Game One: Bellevue 20, Viterbo 3
Bellevue used a 12-run second inning and pounded out 18 hits as they secured a series victory with a 20-3 win in game one of Sunday's twin-bill.
JT Patterson put the Bruins on the board in the top of the first with a two-out single through the right side to score Kory Longaker who reached on an error to lead off the game. BU threatened to score more but Viterbo limited the damage as the Bruins left the bases loaded.
Viterbo answered back with a run of their own in the home half of the first on an RBI-single from Preston Stach.
Bellevue exploded for 12 runs in the second inning to go up 13-1. The inning was highlighted by home runs off the bats of Longaker and Riley Baasch.
Gary Dixon led off the third with the Bruins' third long ball of the game, making the score 14-1.
BU added five runs in the six and another in the seventh to account for their final total.
Viterbo got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth with a bases loaded walk and an error.
Dylan Thorp (6-3) earned the win with five innings of one run ball. He scattered five hits and struck out five on the afternoon.
Viterbo starter Mike Gross (1-5) took the loss. He was charged with allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits in just 1.1 innings of work.
Game Two: Bellevue 5, Viterbo 2
BU scored first and never looked back in the tightest game of the series en route to a 5-2 win and a series sweep of the V-Hawks in Sunday's second game.
Hunter Kelly put the Bruins on the board with a two-run single in the second.
The score remained 2-0 until the sixth inning. JT Patterson led the inning off with a base hit through the right side before advancing to third on a throwing error and coming in to score on an RBI-single off the bat of Stuart Eurich.
Adam Klos got a run back for the V-Hawks with a one-out triple in the bottom of the sixth. A wild pitch later in the inning saw Viterbo pull to within a run at 3-2.
Gary Dixon got those runs back for BU with a two-run single the next half inning.
Brandon Desjardins (2-1) earned the win for BU, throwing 5.1 innings in which he allowed two runs on four hits.
Max Dwyer came on to record the final five outs to earn his fourth save of the year.
John Costello (0-5) took the loss for Viterbo. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Bellevue is scheduled to travel to Fremont, Neb. on Tuesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt against Midland University at Moller Field.
