Bruins take 2-of-3 in tripleheader against Jamestown

NSAA Standings

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team took 2-of-3 games against 12th-ranked University of Jamestown Saturday in a rare North Star Athletic Association tripleheader at Brown Park. 

Bellevue improved to 14-14 on the season and 3-1 in the NSAA after taking 3-of-4 games in the weekend series. Jamestown moved to 24-4 overall and 1-3 in league play. 

BU dropped the first game, 4-3, in eight innings, before rebounding for a 3-0 win in the second and a 3-2 victory in eight innings in the third contest. 

The Bruins will host Clarke University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, March 27 at Brown Park. 

Game 1: Jamestown 4, Bellevue 3 (8 innings)

After the Bruins built a 3-0 lead, the Jimmies battled back, scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the contest at 3-3, before UJ scored in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the dramatic 4-3 victory.  

The Bruins grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly to right field by Kory Longaker and increased the advantage to 2-0 in the top of the third on an RBI single by Gary Dixon.

A balk by Jimmie starter Chase Thometz allowed Matt Evans to score from third, giving BU a 3-0 edge in the fourth frame. 

An RBI single by Drake Pilat reduced the BU lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth and an RBI groundout by Tyler Ludlow made it 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth frame. 

The Jimmies tied the contest on a groundout RBI by Pilat and UJ won the game in the eighth when Jared Berard doubled and was driven in by Taichi Sasaki's RBI single to end the contest.  

Zach Wilson (1-2) suffered the loss, replacing starter Reid Feeley in the eighth. Feeley scattered three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings of work. 

Game 2: Bellevue 3, Jamestown 0

Dylan Thorp tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout and the Bruins used a pair of homers to rebound for the 3-0 win in the second contest. 

Riley Baasch belted a two-run homer in the top of the second and Gary Dixon's solo homer provided an insurance run in the top of the seventh. 

Thorp improved to 3-2 on the season, allowing just one hit with no walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings on the mound.  

Game 3: Bellevue 3, Jamestown 2

The Bruins used timely hitting and the solid pitching of Jarrod Molnaa to pull out the 3-2 victory in the finale.

Austin Alexander's solo homer in the top of the first gave BU an early 1-0 advantage and the Jimmies tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Tanner Roundy. 

The Bruins regained the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to right field by Longaker that scored Diego Iribarren from third.

After Jaden Yackley reached on an error in the bottom of the sixth, the Jimmies knotted the contest at 2-2 on an RBI single by Kory Wolden. 

JT Patterson's RBI single scored Stuart Eurich to give the Bruins a 3-2 edge in the top of the eighth inning and Molnaa retired the side in the bottom of the eighth to secure the one-run victory.
