Two-out offense sees BU pick up DH sweep of York

YORK, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team scored 20 of their 21 runs on the day with two outs as they swept a non-conference double-header at York College on Saturday at Levitt Stadium to open the weekend series.

Bellevue (10-11) picked up victories by scores of 4-0 and 17-6 as they have now won six of their last eight overall while York, losers of five straight, falls to 6-18.

Game One: Bellevue 4, York 0

Reid Feeley fired a complete game four-hit shutout to lead Bellevue to a 4-0 series-opening win over York on Saturday. Feeley struck out eight batters and didn't issue a walk on the day to as he improved to 2-1 on the year.

Matt Evans put the Bruins ahead 1-0 in the second inning when he singled home JT Patterson with two outs, one of three two-out runs BU scored on the day.

The score remained tight into the sixth inning when the Bruins struck for a pair of runs. Patterson singled in Austin Alexander ahead of an RBI-grounder from Riley Baasch that chased in Stuart Eurich.

Bellevue tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Baasch again scored Eurich on a fielder's choice.

Patterson and Travis Tanaka had two hits apiece for the Bruins who out-hit York 9-4 in game one.

Billy Damon (2-5) threw eight solid innings for York, holding BU to four (three earned) runs on nine hits and striking out nine against two walks.

Game Two: Bellevue 17, York 6

Bellevue batted around in the opening frame and never looked back en route to a convincing 17-6 win to secure the double-header sweep against York.

JT Patterson launched a two-out grand slam in the top of the first to put Bellevue up 4-0 early as six players reached base in the inning.

After York got a run back in the bottom of the first, BU answered by scoring five times over the course of the next three innings to break the game open, 9-1.

A two-run homer from Casey Wagnon in the bottom of the fourth but that did little to slow the Bruin offense as BU responded with three more runs in the top of the fifth.

The Bruins tacked on four more runs in the sixth with Austin Alexander providing the big blow, a three-run home run.

Kory Longaker capped the scoring barrage with a solo home run in the seventh.

Brandon Desjardins (1-1) earned his first win in a Bruin uniform with five innings of work. He was charged with three earned runs (five total) on as many hits to go along with five punch outs.

Brandon Facha (0-1) took the loss for York, lasting just three innings and allowing the Bruins to pile up six runs on four hits and four walks.
