BABSON PARK, Fla. -- Bruins pitchers limited Webber International to just four hits but issued seven free passes as the 9th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team couldn't overcome a five-run deficit, falling to the 25th-ranked Warriors, 6-5, on Monday evening at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center Field.
Jonah Yang (2-3) and Travis Tanaka (2-4) both had multi-hit games for the Bruins who fall to 3-8 following a fifth-straight loss. Webber moved to 11-9 with their seventh-straight victory.
The Warriors drew first blood when Garrett Martin raced home on a passed ball in the home half of the first.
BU pulled even in the third when Riley Baasch sent a fly ball to center to score Matt Evans.
Webber put up crooked numbers in both the third and fourth innings as they grabbed a 6-1 lead courtesy of five walks, three hits, and a hit batter over the two frames.
The Bruins pulled within two with a three-run sixth inning. Blake Macdonald doubled in a run and Tanaka singled home another sandwiched around a Warrior error.
With runners at the corners Stuart Eurich singled home Macdonald to trim the Webber lead in half, 6-5. The Warriors brought in reliever Jesse Coleman who recorded a pair of strikeouts to strand a pair of runners on base.
BU managed just one more base-runner the rest of the way with Macdonald drawing a two-out ninth walk.
Zak Spivy (2-3) earned the win for Webber with Coleman coming on in relief to pick up his second save of the year.
Zach Wilson (0-1), making his first start of the year, took the loss. Reid Feeley allowed a pair of hits in a scoreless inning of relief before giving way to Brandon Desjardins who allowed just a walk over four hitless innings out of the bullpen.
