Bontempo repeats as OWH Captain; six named All-Nebraska

BELLEVUE, Neb. – For the seventh-consecutive season a Bellevue University baseball player has been named the captain of the Omaha World-Herald all-Nebraska team. Derik Bontempo was voted as captain with five other BU players earning first team mentions.

The Bruins capped off another successful season as the wrapped up the year with a 51-11 mark and earned a second-straight NSAA Regular-Season Championship. Bellevue hosted an NAIA National Tournament Opening Round Bracket and advanced to the final round of the tournament.

Bontempo was the anchor to a potent Bellevue offense as he led the team in numerous offensive categories including; batting average (.436), on-base percentage (.498), slugging percentage (.821), hits (95), runs (69), doubles (21), home runs (19), extra-base hits (43), RBI (72), total bases (179), and sacrifice flies (8).

In addition to Bontempo, 1B/P Todd Nicks was chosen as a first team selection as both a first baseman and a pitcher. Catcher Jake Browne, second baseman Miles Campbell, third baseman Matt Evans, and pitcher Ben McKendall also earned first team accolades.

A further four Bruins – DH/1B Riley Baasch, LHP Colten Barnes, OF Joe Moran, and LHP Zach Wilson – received honorable mention status on the all-state team.
