Pitching dominant as Bruins close MCAC slate with sweep of Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The 17th ranked Bellevue University baseball team swept a Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference double-header at Waldorf College on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins won the opener 7-0 to clinch a series win before blanking the hosts in the nightcap, 5-0, to win their sixth straight game.

Bellevue improves to 40-12 (18-6 MCAC) while Waldorf dips to 13-30 (4-20 MCAC) on the year.

The Bruins wrap up the regular season with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Briar Cliff University tomorrow on Tanner's Day.

Game One: Bellevue 7, Waldorf 0

Bellevue scored in each of the first three innings to build a 4-0 lead in support of starter Stephan Meyer (9-2) who was nearly untouchable on the afternoon working seven scoreless innings while striking out 13 and holding the Warriors to just three hits.

Colton Nash doubled home a pair of runs in the top of the first. Trevor Jones and Ross Feeley singled and reached on an error before Nash doubled to left to chase them home with one out.

Tyler Blood scored on a second inning error and singled home Gabriel De La Rosa in the third to stake BU to the early 4-0 edge.

Bellevue added a run in the sixth when Kevin Rodriguez came in to score on a wild pitch and two more insurance runs in the eighth to go up 7-0.

Leland Tilley and Connor Chick each worked a scoreless inning to secure the Bruins' fifth straight victory.

Game Two: Bellevue 5, Waldorf 0

Sean McManus tossed a five-hit shutout and eight of nine Bellevue starters recorded at least one base hit as BU blanked Waldorf for third time in four games. McManus (8-2) didn't walk a batter while striking out two on the afternoon.

Bellevue opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, striking three times. Osvaldo Gonzalez, with runners on the corners, hit a sac fly to right to score Trevor Jones. A double by Colton Nash put two runners in scoring position for Gabriel De La Rosa who singled to right, bringing in both runners.

Dan Greco delivered an RBI-singled in the fourth to chase home Tyler Blood who doubled a batter earlier to lead off the inning.

Aaron Brasher capped the Bellevue scoring with an RBI-single in the seventh to chase in Osvaldo Gonzalez.
