Mullins leads BU to 15-5 win over CBC at MCAC Tourney

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Senior Nate Mullins drove in six runs to lead the 18th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team to a 15-5 win over Central Baptist College Friday in the MCAC Tournament at Bill Doenges Memorial Park Stadium.

The Bruins (35-14-2) will battle College of the Ozarks at 7 p.m. tonight in an elimination game. 

Mullins finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs, a home run and two runs scored to pace the BU offense. Devin Ferguson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs. Tyler Blood drove in a pair of runs, finishing 3-for-5 on the day. Joe Mancuso went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. 

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on a Mustang fielding error and a ground-out RBI by Mullins.

Blood drove in Mancuso on an RBI single to left field to extend the lead to 3-0 in the second.

A two-run homer to center field by Mullins gave BU a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the third.

A ground-out RBI by Mullins and consecutive RBI doubles by Ferguson and Aaron Brasher pushed the BU lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth frame. 

The Mustangs pushed across their first run in the top of the sixth on a bases-loaded fielder's choice RBI by Brandon Papera.

The Bruins batted through the lineup in the seventh, exploding for seven runs as Mullins, Ferguson, Mancuso and Blood all drove in runs in the inning.

Central Baptist got four runs back in the eighth inning, scoring on RBI singles by Samuel Bucsek, Derek Houser and Josh Buczek and a sacrifice fly by Ross Westbrook, slicing the lead to 15-5.

Ricky Holm (9-1) picked up his team-leading ninth win of the sesason, allowing one run while scattering four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in six innings on the mound.
