Bruins and Panthers split doubleheader

YORK, Neb. -- The 17th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team posted an 11-4 win in the opener before falling to York College 10-1 in the nightcap in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Levitt Stadium.

Bellevue moved its record to 21-11-2 and 9-5 in the conference while York is now 21-12 and 7-3 in the MCAC.

The Bruins and Panthers will conclude their four-game conference series tomorrow.

Bellevue 11, York 4

Bellevue scored runs in six of the first seven innings and tallied a season-high 18 hits en route to an 11-4 win in the series opener.

Kyle Kinman went 5-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored while Zack Clark and Bryce Kelly added three hits apiece.

Clark led the game off with a single and Kinman followed with a two-run home run to right field to give the Bruins an early 2-0 lead.

The Panthers scored on a balk and an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2 after the first inning.

Levi Cartas doubled and came around to score on Kelly's two-out single to give the Bruins the lead, 3-2, in the second.

BU used back-to-back doubles and took advantage of a YC error to extend its lead to 5-2 in the third inning.

The Panthers scored their third run of the game on a BU throwing error to make the score 5-3 after four complete innings.

The first four Bruin batters all notched singles to begin the fifth and Nate Mullins and Charlie Krueger registered RBIs to give BU a 7-3 lead.

After a two-out double by Rudy Perez, Tyler Helms singled to trim YC's deficit down to three, 7-4, in the home half of the fifth.

Cribbs and Kinman registered consecutive RBI singles and the Panthers committed three errors to lift the Bruins to a 9-4 lead.

Kelly and Kinman recorded RBI singles as BU added to its advantage in the seventh, 11-4.

Ricky Holm improved to 5-1 with the complete game win. He struck out a season-high 14 batters and held the Panthers to just seven hits. Holm has now recorded 10 or more strikeouts in five of his eight starts this season.

Aaron Conyers (4-3) took the loss for YC and gave up seven runs on 12 hits in four innings of work.

The two teams combined for 11 errors.

York 10, Bellevue 1

York defeated the Bruins 10-1 to salvage a split.

The Panthers scored four runs in the first and third innings to take control of the contest, 8-0.

YC hit home run in the fifth to take a nine-run lead before Krueger blasted a solo home run in the top of the sixth for the Bruins' only run of the game.

The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the sixth with a run on a double by Josh Knoll. 

Taylor Molder tossed a complete game four-hitter for YC with four strikeouts and improved to 6-2.

Sean Felt took the loss and fell to 3-1 after allowing eight runs on six hits in three innings.
